Hazardous Materials Endorsement
Federal Rulemaking has been issued as a component of the USA PATRIOT Act that regulates the issuance or renewal of a
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a hazardous materials endorsement. The major impact of this rulemaking is that persons
involved in the transportation of hazardous materials will need to be fingerprinted and pay additional Federal fees as part
of a Federal security risk assessment. PennDOT must receive clearance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation
Security Administration for any driver wishing to transport hazardous materials. This clearance must be obtained each time
your CDL with a hazardous materials endorsement is issued or renewed.
